A Supreme Command

During the Civil War, General Robert E. Lee sent word to Stonewall Jackson that he would like to see him sometime on a relatively unimportant matter.

Jackson received the message, rose early the next morning and rode eight miles into a driving snowstorm, arriving at Lee's quarters just as the general was finishing breakfast.

Surprised to see Jackson so soon, Lee asked him why he had come under adverse conditions.  Jackson replied, "You said that you wished to see me.  General Lee's slightest wish is a supreme command to me."
