A rich man once asked a friend why is was that everybody criticized him for being miserly, when they know he had provisions to leave all his possissions to charity upon his death.  The friend replied with a story about the pig and the cow:

"I just don't understand," said the pig to the cow, "why it is that I am so unpopular? People are always talking about your bovine gentleness and your kind eyes. Sure, you give milk and cream--but I give bacon and ham! I also provide bristles, and they even pickle my feet. Still, it seems that nobody likes me. Why is this so?"

"Well," replied the cow, "maybe it's because I'm giving while I'm still living."
